Joshua b. Levi once visited Gabla. He saw vines laden with clusters of ripe grapes standing up like calves. He said, “Calves among the vines!” They said to him, “These are clusters of ripe grapes.” He said, “Land, O land, take back your fruit! For whom are you taking out your fruit? For those non-Jews who rose up against us on account of our sins?”
